Baby Boxes and Early Brain Development:

One of the advantages to using Baby Boxes is their ability to encourage infant and parent interactions.  Many babies are left in carseats throughout the day and are given less experiences to promote their early brain development.  With a Baby Box, however, an infant has more room for movement and encouragement in their development.   Explore the many stages of early brain development and its importance here: http://www.zerotothree.org/child-development/brain-development/baby-brain-map.html

In the photo above, the beautiful baby shown has a birth defect that requires her to wear a hearing aid on the outside of her head. Children rely on sound early on to learn to speak. This mother has learned about early brain development and attachment parenting at the Sixteenth Street Community Health Center’s parenting program and understands the importance of enriching experiences for both of her daughters.
